  • STEP 3 : COMPLETE ACCOUNT CREATION AND UNIVERSAL REGISTRATION — Register on the portal to create an account and generate your lifetime unique Universal Registration Number (URN).

  • STEP 4 : FILL OUT THE UNIVERSAL REGISTRATION PROFILE — Enter personal records and provide valid details of one official Photo ID card (such as Aadhaar, Voter Card, PAN, Passport, or Driving License).

  • STEP 5 : UPLOAD REQUIRED SIGNATURE — Sign three times vertically on plain white paper using black ink and upload a clear, legible digital copy to the system.

  • STEP 6 : PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPH AND CAPTURE LIVE PHOTO — Upload a clear passport-sized digital photograph and complete the mandatory live photo capture through the browser camera.

  • STEP 7 : ENTER COMMON APPLICATION FORM (CAF) DETAILS — Complete the common profile details and fill out the standard required fields applicable across UPSC examinations.

  • STEP 8 : CHOOSE EXAMINATION SPECIFIC PARAMETERS — Fill out the fourth module to choose your preliminary test centre, optional subject, medium of examination, and compulsory language.

  • STEP 9 : UPLOAD SUPPORTING CERTIFICATES — Submit necessary educational, age, and category-based documents (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or PwBD claims) required along with the form.

  • STEP 10 : PAY REQUISITE EXAM FEES — Process the category-applicable application fee through the online payment gateway integrated within the portal.

  • STEP 12 : RETAIN SYSTEM GENERATED NUMBERS — Save and securely note down your dynamic, examination-specific Application Number alongside your unique URN for all future correspondences.

Selection Process

  • Stage 1 : Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination — It is an objective type examination (comprising two papers with negative marking for wrong answers) that serves as a screening test to select candidates for the Main Examination.

  • Stage 2 : Civil Services (Main) Written Examination — It is a conventional essay-type written examination designed to evaluate intellectual qualities and depth of understanding for those who qualify from the Preliminary stage.

  • Stage 3 : Interview / Personality Test — It is a purposive conversation conducted by a Board of observers to assess the personal suitability, mental calibre, and social traits of the candidates for a career in public service.

  • Stage 4 : Document Verification and Medical Examination — The Commission takes up final verification of eligibility conditions against original documents and mandatory medical testing before final service allocation.
