Selection Process

Stage 1 : Preliminary Examination (Screening)

The Preliminary exam is qualifying in nature and is used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains. Marks obtained here are not counted in the final merit list.

  • Structure : Two compulsory papers of 200 marks each (Total 400 marks).

  • Nature : Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions).

  • Paper I (General Studies) : 100 questions. This paper determines the merit list for the Mains.

  • Paper II (Aptitude Test) : 100 questions. This is a qualifying paper; candidates must score at least 33% (23% for reserved categories) to move forward.

  • Negative Marking : One-third (1/3rd) of the marks assigned to a question are deducted for every wrong answer.

  • Shortlisting : Approximately 15 times the number of total vacancies are selected for the Main Examination.

Stage 2 : Main Examination (Written/Descriptive)

Candidates who clear the Prelims appear for the Mains, which consists of 7 descriptive papers.

  • Total Marks : 1400 marks (200 marks per paper).

  • Duration : 3 hours per paper.

  • Language : All papers except the "Language" paper can be answered in either Hindi or English.

  • Papers Overview :

    • Paper I : Language (General Hindi, General English, Chhattisgarhi Language).

    • Paper II : Essay (National and International issues, and Chhattisgarh state issues).

    • Papers III - VII : General Studies covering History, Constitution, Public Administration, Science, Technology, Environment, Economy, Geography, Philosophy, and Sociology.

Stage 3 : Interview / Personality Test

Candidates are called for the interview based on their performance in the Mains examination.

  • Weightage : 100 marks (reduced from 150 in previous years).

  • Objective : To assess the candidate’s personality, leadership qualities, administrative aptitude, and suitability for the civil services.

  • Document Verification : Usually occurs alongside or immediately after the interview stage to verify eligibility credentials.

Final Selection & Merit List

The final selection and ranking are based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Main Examination (1400) and the Interview (100), totaling 1500 marks.

Candidates must qualify in each stage sequentially; failing to secure the minimum qualifying marks in any stage or missing a paper in the Mains results in immediate disqualification from the process.
